Secret Foods That Heal Crohn's Disease


Traditional eating is bad. Traditional eating is full of carbs---burgers, fries, etc.-which leads to excess bacteria, which is bad for everyone, but especially to those already in a bacteria sensitive situation; the Crohn's disease diet not only teaches about bacteria, and what foods contain it, but also the other factors, such as acids.

Acid is good, and it is bad, much like bacteria-moderation is key, for too much is pain and too little is plain unhealthy. By keeping Crohn's nutrition, moderation will be contained, and one's body will be a temple representing yin and yang on a molecular level.

The opposite of an acid is an alkaline, as any chemistry professor will explain. Traditional foods not only carry bacteria and are "anti-Crohn's diet," but also because of the acids the foods carry. The culprit--high fructose corn syrup, and it is found in processed foods.

Note that although "real" bread would not be considered processed for it contains only flour, wheat, yeast, water, and spices, there are breads that are anything but that simple, and, thus, will contain acids; Crohn's nutrition not only teaches what to look for, but to simply be aware-read the labels, for some corn tortillas are simply corn, but others are more commercial and will contain such ingredients as guar gum.

So, there is too much acid in the traditional diet, and that is why alkaline is so encouraged in the Crohn's disease diet. Although moderation is demanded, there has been debate on whether alkaline should be unbalanced and be in excess. Regardless, Crohn's nutrition stresses alkaline, such as dark green veggies, bell peppers, and generally vegetables that are high in antioxidants and vitamins. By eating more alkaline, it will balance the acids in the body, and, as Crohn's nutrition stresses, there will be balance. Balance not only means less pain, but more energy as well-the Crohn's diet may be a healthy choice for even people without the disease.

The true irony of Crohn's nutrition is the fiber it may possess. People looking for a Crohn's disease diet are not looking forward for potentially spending more time in the bathroom by eating, for example, dark, leafy greens. However, by not eating such foods, such alkaline, there will be an excess of acid-this imbalance is the real origin of pain, and fiber should not be crucified. In fact, two servings of alkaline is necessary for Crohn's nutrition.
